Questions to Ask
-
Before you book your wedding photographer, here are some important questions to ask. You can’t redo your wedding day so it's important to find the perfect match from the beginning.
-
-
1.Do they know how to shoot in a venue like yours?
-
Church, beach, barn, outdoor at noon, hotel ballroom- these common wedding and reception venues have very different lighting setups, equipment and challenges. Make sure you can see your venue type in their portfolio or social media posts.
-
-
2.What is their editing style like?
-
How do they edit their images? There are some who edit “dark and moody” with enhanced shadows, while others edit “light and airy,” with slightly overexposed highlights. I describe my editing as a polished and enhanced view of real life. I believe they will be classic and timeless and you will still love them at your 20th anniversary party!

-
3.Do they have insurance?
-
Every professional photographer should have the appropriate insurance including liability, equipment and damaged photos. As a member of Professional Photographers of America, I carry full liability and equipment insurance; I am also eligible to use a fund to redo images that might get damaged (and hope I never have to use it!)

-
4.Do you see quality posing in their galleries?
-
Photographers do more than click the shutter. The greatest portraits are made great because the photographer understands how to pose you in a flattering way and how to capture your interaction in a natural and beautiful image. Does your photographer understand how to draw out the best of you and your spouse?
-
-
5.Do they have sufficient equipment?
-
A wedding photographer must have appropriate lighting equipment, camera equipment AND backup equipment. The last thing you want is to have a wedding photographer with only one camera- what happens if it breaks?
-
-
6.Do they have the option to add a second shooter?
-
A second shooter helps get full coverage of your wedding day, and ensures you get images from multiple angles, including the bride’s entrance and the groom’s face when he sees her!
-
-
7.Do you like being around them?
-
As a bride, you will spend more time with your photographer than with your spouse! Make sure their personality is pleasant and calming to you. If you feel stressed and nervous around them, you will not enjoy your wedding day!
